ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Develop strategies and identify opportunities to maximize revenue and freight income across the organization.  Actively managing a portfolio of carriers that support the inbound freight to our markets, ensuring consistency, while maximizing revenue and reducing transportation costs.

 

Oversee the vendor conversion process - developing and directing innovative strategies - to transition freight to be managed by USF (versus third party).

 

Manage systems used to serve up freight savings opportunities (TMS, Crossbow, etc.) and ensure there are standard operating procedures for the freight management processes.  

 

Oversee vendor relationships as they pertain to planning and execution - ensure a collaborative environment, maximize efficiencies within vendor network, hold vendors accountable against performance guarantees.  Manage vendor performance through expectations, measurements and aligned goals.  Work with business to improve overall supply chain to reduce cost and waste.

 

Manages business intelligence and analytics function within supply chain which includes utilization of off shore analytical resources.  Ensure operational performance is consistently measured and analyzed against metrics. Utilize analysis to identify opportunities and solutions for improvement.

 

Lead a team which works directly with the National sales team on development of customer proposals (market mapping, inbound cost, freight savings opportunities).

Education/Training

BA/BS degree in Business, finance, similar field or equivalent experience required. MBA preferred.

 

Related Experience/Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in transportation, logistics, purchasing, operations or similar in a large, multi-state environment - food service distribution experience preferred and sales and operations planning experience, or related field required, preferably in a leadership role.
  • Required understanding of Supply Chain principles and familiarity with inventory planning.
  • Experience with supply chain and demand planning software applications is required; must possess strong process and analytical skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of warehousing, routing, transportation and inventory management systems required.
  • Knowledge of all federal, state and local regulations governing distribution operations.
  • Demonstrated experience running a high volume transaction processing or transportation operation within a TMS system with multiple divisions. Knowledge of foodservice distribution highly preferred.
  • Highly analytical with strong problem-solving and collaborative skills.
  • Experience in strategic project management and vendor negotiations required.
  • Experience in 3rd party customer freight development with the utilization of a private fleet for reduction of empty miles a plus.
  • Must have strong communication skills and able to work with various disciplines and stakeholders; possess effective project management skills; skilled at facilitating decision-making.
  • Must be highly adaptive, able to function effectively within a fast paced environment.
  • Must have prior experience in managing budgets, working within balance sheets and other relevant financial metrics.
