The Supply Chain Department has an opening for a Transportation Superintendent
- Lancaster Distribution Center. This position is located in Denver, PA.
POSITION PURPOSE: Responsible for all vehicle maintenance on all shifts to
ensure that all repairs are performed according to Company maintenance
guidelines and DOT rules and regulations, in a timely and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Supervises associates work performance. Monitors all work orders and
preventative maintenance service sheets.
•Tracks equipment movement in order to schedule daily repairs and maintenance.
•Monitors fleet status, through analysis of equipment repairs, tires, reefer
hours, and general fleet condition.
•Investigates vehicle accidents, interviewing drivers and any third parties
involved. Schedules estimates on damage.
•Develops and maintains good working relationship with vendors to obtain better
pricing on supplies and parts.
•Performs driver road testing, training and qualification.
•Reviews informational materials concerning changes in technology, laws and
guidelines in the transportation industry.
•Interacts with Transportation Superintendent/Supervisor to help minimize
tractor/trailer out of service and driver repair requests.
•Determines equipment needs: additions, sales and removal.
•Budgets parts inventory, on a quarterly basis.
•Monitors labor for maximum utilization with minimum overtime.
•Ensures compliance with Company and government rules and regulations by all
department personnel.
Qualifications:
Previous extensive experience and/or formal training or education in transportation and heavy duty diesels, preferably with the Company or in the grocery industry. Class A CDL and EPA certified in refrigerant recovery, preferred.
Preferred experience working in at least a 300,000 sqft facility and management of a large fleet and staff.
Must have working knowledge of government regulations pertaining to transportation.
Possess good leadership skills and the ability to supervise the work of others. Must be able to motivate and work with and through others to achieve desired results.
Possess good communication skills, both verbal and written. Deal effectively with a wide variety of people both in person and over the telephone.
Basic computer skills required and personal computer experience helpful, with word processing and spreadsheet applications preferred. Working knowledge of the onboard computer system and computerized maintenance program, helpful.
Requires the analytical ability to handle administrative duties and mental alertness to ensure accurate, safe, and thorough completion of work activities. Possess ability to concentrate and deal with frequent interruptions.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
•During part of the workday the incumbent will be moving about the Vehicle
Maintenance shop floor and potential hazards exist in regard to machinery such
as power and impact tools, movement of tractors and trailers, etc.
•Temperatures in the warehouse may vary between –20 to 100 degrees. Noise
levels in all areas are within acceptable tolerance ranges for those specific
work areas.
•Incumbent may sit for long periods of time at a desk or computer terminal.
•Position responsibilities requires little travel (up to 5%) during the work
week and occasional weekend travel
•Incumbent will use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office
equipment in the course of the workday.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGERIAL:
•Makes recommendations to Director of Fleet Operations regarding personnel
actions such as: hiring, terminations, disciplinary actions, layoff, promotion
and salary increases. Review and evaluate work of subordinates and prepare
performance evaluations.
•Assigns associates to jobs; instruct them in proper performance of work;
familiarize them with Company rules and regulations. Recommends the need for,
coordinate, and evaluate formal training and on-the-job training programs.
•Maintains formal and informal channels of upward communications; encourage the
expression new ideas, and complaints; review them for appropriateness and
further action.
