Key Responsibilities

In February 2016 the FASB issued a new accounting standard for leases, requiring all leases to be reflected on the balance sheet as right to use assets and lease obligations. Today, PPG has approximately $850 million of leases that are not reflected on its balance sheet.

In order to comply with the standard PPG needs to implement a lease administration and accounting application, complete a lease gathering process in electronic format (PDF or Word), guide a lease abstraction firm to read the lease documents and enter the critical lease data into the application, and develop files in a format that can be accepted by PPG’s 38 ERP systems (integrations) or received from such systems by the application. The finance project analyst will be a full time position that leads or co-leads portions of these three streams. In addition to this position, there will be part time (55%) IT and Global Supply Management (GSM) leads and a part time IT Project Manager.

Given the magnitude of the financial statement impact and the breadth of PPG’s lease population (approximately 15,000), this project is of high importance, with visibility at the levels of the VP GSM, VP & Controller and the CFO.

Currently, there is a Lease Administration and Accounting Task Force in place that is comprised of associates from Controllership, GSM, Architectural Coatings, IT and Treasury. The three team leads will receive guidance from the full Task Force and they will also serve as members of the Task Force. The team leads will work closely, collaborating with Lucernex (lease application) and Fell Lease Administration (lease abstraction firm).

The team leads will ensure that project streams stay on time or timely report back to the full task force with roadblocks or bottlenecks that are not readily resolvable. They will regularly communicate with the future users of the application and suppliers of the lease documents in order to keep them apprised of the project’s status and implications of the deployment of the application.  In addition, they will develop training documents and lead regional training sessions for the future users of the application.

The project will take 1 – 1.5 years to complete with a go live of the new standard as of January 1, 2019.

Successful performance of the job’s requirements will ensure that the project is completed on time, on or under budget.

Specific responsibilities include:
  • Provide leadership and direction to ensure successful completion of the project.
  • Timely identify problems, bottlenecks, and obstacles and identify and implement logical solutions, otherwise bring the issues to the Task Force for assistance in resolution.
  • Effectively communicate in a team setting to provide timely input and feedback.
  • Liaise with the Task Force, Lucernex and Fell consultants and the future users.
  • Deliver project communication to future users and project sponsors to ensure a successful implementation.
  • Ensure that the design of the application (Lucernex) will meet PPG’s requirements.
  • Collaborate with the other functional leads and with the application consultants to develop and populate the lease application
  • Ensure that effective testing and deployment of the application occurs.
  • Ensure that the application is populated with all of PPG’s leases and that the data in the application is accurate.
  • Assist with a search for unidentified leases and document the process, which should ensure that the population of leases in the system is complete.
