Key Responsibilities:
 
PPG Protective and Marine Coatings is seeking an experienced Technical Service Representative.  This is a nation-wide position and candidates who reside in several strategic areas of the United States will be considered, but the California area his highly preferred!  The position is customer facing providing support for the Application of PPG’s Protective & Marine product offering.  Duties include travel to customer sites for complaint investigation, troubleshooting of application issues, documentation and record keeping. 
 
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications will be considered: 
  • At least 5 years of direct experience with the specification, application, and troubleshooting of protective coatings for severe marine and industrial environments. 10 years preferred.
  • A working knowledge of the following types of coating systems and their qualifications is required:   zinc primers, epoxy coatings, polyurethane finish coats, intumescent coatings, anti-foulings, vinyl esters, waterborne acrylic coatings, alkyds, high temperature silicone coatings, floor coatings, light duty architectural coatings, and tank linings.
  • A working understanding of industrial and marine markets to include knowledge of ship construction and operations, knowledge of chemical process and refinery unit operations, knowledge of commercial and industrial construction terminology, knowledge of pipelines, power generation facilities, water and wastewater treatment facilities, public works projects, steel and concrete fabrication, rail, and other markets as necessary.
  • A working understanding of coating manufacturing processes and testing of coatings.
  • A working understanding of environmental, health, and safety regulations related to industrial and marine coatings.
  • A working knowledge of paint and coating application equipment, to include airless spray, air assisted airless, plural component, pressure pots, and other application methods as necessary.
  • NACE CIP certification (strongly preferred)
  • Good oral and written communication skills.  Ability to use diplomacy to diffuse difficult customer facing situations, with multiple parties involved concerning coatings application issues.
  • Ability to travel overnight up to  75%
  • Spanish as a second language is a bonus, but not required.
  • The successful candidate will be required to perform field inspections which will include climbing ladders, working at heights, and entering confined spaces.
 
Experience and Education: 
  • At least 5 years of direct experience with the specification, application, and troubleshooting of protective coatings for severe marine and industrial environments. 10 years preferred.
