Position description Currently, we are seeking a Materials Assistant to join our Corporate Solutions team in Annandale, NJ.
Position Summary:
Materials Assistant will assist with various tasks involving material handling, shipping/receiving and routine maintenance inspection tasks.
Ability to safely operate a forklift may be necessary for success in this role.
Essential Functions: Materials Assistant may need to perform any of the following duties:
Specialty chemical receiving & cylinder check-in and delivery
Receive and unpack specialty chemicals
Receive gas cylinders
Enter chemicals using customer’s inventory database
Deliver chemicals/cylinders to lab locations
Affix chemical labels to all chemicals
Forklift operation required
Drum handling and chemical management
Deliver chemical/material drums to customer lab locations within the site
Assist in managing inventory to maintain compliance with storage regulations
Forklift operation required
Eyewash/Shower and Lab Drain inspections
Tests (runs equipment) and inspects sites eyewashes and safety showers
Coordinates with lab owners to visually inspect lab drains (p trap operation)
SCBA inspection
Detailed inspection procedure for verifying functionality of SCBA equipment
Liquid Nitrogen filling and delivery
Approximately 80 liquid N2 cryogenic tanks (dewars) spread throughout the site
Uses onsite facilities to fill empty 160G dewars with liquid N2
Picks up empty dewars, and delivers full dewars to lab locations
Forklift operation required
Dry Ice delivery
Takes bulk dry ice from receiving, and delivers to designated areas in the lab wings
Forklift operation required
Glassware pick-up and delivery
Picks up dirty glassware from lab corridors, and delivers to cleaners
After cleaning, clean glassware is delivered to lab locations
Stockroom Clerk
Staff stockroom counter and fulfil stockroom request
Stock shelves, receive lab/mech/chem stock
Verify stock quantity
Enter and remove products using customer’s inventory database
Other duties may be assigned.
Duties Involving Hazardous Materials After, and only after, receiving the required training on handling of hazardous materials, selected individual will be required to pick up and transport hazardous materials/waste throughout the site, typically utilizing custom make carts, forklift/tow motor/powered industrial truck, to move 55 gallon drums or dewars. Individuals selected for this job must not have any restrictions in can crushing activities which requires the use of respirator and appropriate PPEs.
Annual refresher training will be given to any individual involved in handling hazardous waste and or materials.

Minimum Required Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three to five years related industrial maintenance experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Other Skills and Abilities: A valid driver's license is required to operate vehicles. Candidates must possess physical and mental ability necessary to secure a Forklift / Powered Industrial Truck operator's license. General computer skills with knowledge in E-mail, Internet, Microsoft Word and Excel are a plus for this position.
