The OTM (Oracle Transportation Management) Business Analyst II/I will work in the Logistics & Export (L&E) IT area of PPG’s North American Oracle Center of Excellence (CoE) organization located in Pittsburgh, PA. This team provides process and technical knowledge expertise globally in the areas of both Logistics and Export Compliance. The candidate will specifically support PPG’s Global Oracle Transportation Management (OTM) system and other Logistics and Export Compliance systems. Individuals on this team serve as the initial point of contact for internal customers/system users as well as external suppliers providing Software-as-a-Service. There is a focus on developing strong working relationships with internal customers.
As a L&E Business Analyst, this individual will:
Write Functional Specifications confirming functionality requirements and scope of work
Be accountable for development of global L&E systems by coordinating development activities through outside resources (development and/or outsourced service provider teams)
Be responsible for utilizing PPG's Project Methodology to manage application development, maintenance and enhancement IT Projects
Contribute to the achievement of L&E business objectives by identifying opportunities for effective use of technology and developing, implementing and supporting IT solutions on time and on budget
Business
Business Analysts assist in providing guidance and support to a specific business or function, specifically leveraging prior OTM experience. They conduct and analyze business and information technology processes and prepare groundwork which allows the evaluation of possible business process and application changes. The Business Analyst is responsible for networking with PPG colleagues to understand how IT solutions are deployed in other areas to solve business problems. In conjunction with developers, Business Analysts solicit client requirements through interviews, workshops, and/or existing systems documentation or procedures and use prototyping, where possible, to solidify client requirements.
Technical
Business Analysts participate in the definition, testing, training, implementation, and support of OTM business solutions. They may be required to manage projects and be responsible for the overall implementation and execution of project and performance criteria, maintaining knowledge of all phases of business¬ specific technology implementations. They understand and identify customer requirements, help develop test schedules, create and review testing plans, author functional specifications, and track and document the development and results of these plans. Incumbents work in project teams and discuss with project leaders possible project risks and other potential issues of importance. They uncover client requirements via industry standard analysis techniques such as data flow modeling, case analysis, workflow analysis, functional decomposition analysis, data modeling, and object modeling. Business Analysts create, modify, maintain and schedule procedures and reports using various report-writing tools. They document the results of analysis activities using the appropriate templates or analysis tools. Incumbents actively participate in project teams to ensure that solutions delivered to customers adhere to PPG's methodology and architectural standards.
The OTM Business Analyst will leverage their prior experience with the application in a number of ways. They will be expected to (among other responsibilities) understand, create, and modify agents, analyze and execute SQL statements, troubleshoot XML, work within a multi-domain, load-balanced OTM environment, and troubleshoot G-Log and OTM Transmission Manager alerts and errors.
Interpersonal
Business Analysts need to develop an understanding of the business area they serve. Their desire for learning and enthusiasm are key to establishing relationships with the customer base. They need to demonstrate openness, flexibility and be fast learners. Business Analysts develop and maintain relationships with vendors, consultants or contractors, and professional organizations to maintain professional and technical knowledge of software and systems.
They may be called upon to broker services within PPG’s IT community on behalf of customers. They coordinate solutions and clarify interdependencies so that systems appear seamless to customers. Incumbents must forge relationships within the business they serve as well as maintain rapport with other IT groups. Negotiation, influencing and getting to consensus are key attributes of the successful Business Analyst.

Required Qualifications
A degree in Information Systems, Business or comparable field (MBA or desire to obtain one preferred)
4 years prior work experience in an IT or Business Analyst role
3 years’ experience with Oracle Transportation Management
3 years’ experience in gathering requirements, authoring functional design specifications, and working with streamlining business processes
Skills:
Ability to rapidly assimilate assigned business functions’ products and processes
Knowledge and experience in gathering requirements, functional design, and working with business processes
Understanding of how IT affects an organization and ability to link it to redesigned business processes
Good technical knowledge and ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business
Previous experience in business process re-engineering or process improvement is desirable
